I want to thank everyone who participated in and helped with a very successful service project at the Lotus House Shelter this past Saturday, January 26. In perfect Miami January weather, we went through 10 gallons of white paint and 3 gallons of yellow and painted the inside and outside of the fence around the shelter. Meanwhile, we also prepared and hosted a barbecue for the residents, grilling no fewer than 60 hamburgers, 140 hot dogs, and the fixings. The Rotaract Clubs of Coral Gables and Downtown Miami played an important part, and without their enthusiasm, teamed with many members from our club, this project would not have gone so well.

Members, Rotaracters, and Friends:
This Saturday, January 26, 2013, we have a very special community service project. We will be painting the walls and fences at the Lotus House Shelter in Overtown (203 NW 36th St Miami, FL 33127) from 10-12am. Afterwards, we will be cooking and sponsoring a barbecue for about 65 women and their children who are residents of the Lotus House.
Those of you at our last happy hour meeting had the pleasure of listening to our host, Anna Frusciante, speak about the wonderful work that the Lotus House is doing. Here is a link to their page: http://www.lotushouseshelter.org/aboutus.html.
Please join us, bring clothes that you don’t mind getting paint on, bring a paint brush if you have one (no need to purchase if not, we will be providing), and bring a smile! If you do plan on attending, please reply to this email so we can plan to have enough food for you. Also, please feel free to bring guests, family and friends.

Dear Rotarians and Friends of Rotary:
As a reminder, this week’s meeting will be at Chophouse Bistro and Lounge in Downtown. We will have a fantastic speaker, Ana Frusciante, from the Lotus House. The Lotus House offers a sanctuary from life on the streets – a place where the minds, bodies and spirits of women & infants most in need are supported and nurtured. We hope you’ll join us for this Happy Hour meeting!
